Could you please add a warning in the next newsletter. There are several dog owners who allow their dog to bark for several minutes at a time between the hours of 1am and 5am. We would prefer not to call animal control yet; perhaps a mention
in the newsletter to the irresponsible and inconsiderate dog owners will get their attention.

Where is the snow plow?
It seems like with every snowfall this season, the streets are not plowed for days, if at all. Today is another fine example. The roads are horrible.
Can someone please speak with the plow-man regarding this?
I understand if it's going to melt off, but we are in the heart of winter and this snow isn't going anywhere.
Thank you.

In response to your question, yes, anyone can speak with the plow-man. It doesn't have to be anyone in particular that contacts the city street department. Please feel free to give them a call.

Hey, I think it's amazing that our streets have been plowed at all!! We are cul-de-sac neighborhood and to have the City come down our streets to plow is great, and within 3 days of a major storm. Actually, I don't know what the problem is. Yes, the streets are horrible, but our Association has no money to hire a private plow.

Thank you for explaining that it's the city. I was under the impression that the common-area landscaper also did our plowing. My bad :)
The city must be reading this too, as they plowed the very next day ;)

Highgate resident you're more then welcome! I to was impressed with the plowing getting done the next day, it doesn't always work out that way.
Anyone else that has any questions, please feel free to post them on this site. Either myself or a board member will try to answer ASAP.

I live on the southern end of Lofton Way. For the last few days, we have noticed a really awfull odor outside. Sometimes it is stronger than at other times. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed it and if so does anyone know what it is from? The odor is hard to decribe. It really isn't like a garbage smell. It is just funky.

I live on Randford and I haven't noticed it lately, but during the Spring and Summer I notice a lot of smells. Some, Im sure, coming from the Recycle yard, factories in New Haven, and even Henry's Greenhouse when they have all the mulch. I will pay close attention now and see if I notice anything unusual.

A few observations of emerging eyesores in the neighborhood...
While the 'heaping pile of newspapers' seems to have been taken care of, there seems to be a few new eyesores arising in our neighborhood.
1.) Trailer parked in yard next to driveway
2.) Piles of scrap metal along side house
3.) Cars parked on the street facing the wrong way (every day)
4.) Pealing/ faded paint on what appear to be rental properties
5.) Van up on jacks sticking out of open garage door
Realizing that we have some foreclosures in the neighborhood, I personally find it important to keep up our property and neighborhood so new residents who 'get a great deal' don't think it's okay to trash it up, bringing down all our property values more than they are already slipping.
Comments, suggestions?

The blue house on the corner of Cordava and Duprey has a van half in the garage and a TON of stuff piled up showing to the world. Plus, they have trash cans laying out in the yard which the whole neighborhood got warnings on last fall.

The foreclosure on Lofton Way SOLD, AND the old trailer on Lofton Way is back in the garage. Hopefully Fred Sanford will take his scrap metal to OmniSource soon.

I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for a gutter repair company. I have to replace/repair a gutter after the ice storm we had a few months back. If anyone has had any luck with reasonably priced repairs, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

There has been a contest for best yard...How would a "most improved yard" contest go over? The thought behind it would be to motivate those who haven't typically put ANY effort into the look of their property to take some pride in it? There could be a reward like not having to pay the next years annual dues? They would have a nicer yard and their neighbors property value might go up as well? Win-win.

In our last news letter I put down one of our residents that is willing to do handy jobs around the house for anyone that may need things done. His name is: Maurice Bryan, 749-5755. As we stated in the letter, this is not an endorsement by the Lofton Woods Association Board. It is strictly an information resource to our residents.

I think the garage sales were slow due to rain but also Arlington having their garage sales. I know a couple associates calls Arlington’s to find out when they are having their garage sales. Maybe we could also do that to help sales?

About the Garage Sale: for some reason it seemed every "Big" association had their garage sale the same weekend as our's. In the past we had it the 2nd weekend in May, but changed it this year to the third thinking not many would have sales then. It looked like everyone else thought the same thing.LOL Soooo...saying that, at my last meeting we decided to go back to the 2nd weekend in May next year and lets see what happens. Don't forget we have a Fall Sale 2nd weekend in Sept.
Thank you for your suggestion, keep them coming !

Does anyone know anything about the brown car parked on the street in the 1500 block of Lofton Way? I don't want to have the city called if it belongs to someone around here but it seems to have appeared about a month ago and I don't think it has moved since.

I was thrilled when I moved into this neighborhood and it was quiet :) However, someone on East Cordava is not monitoring their children. I think Tuesday night at 11:00pm is too loud for them to be outside with their buddies shouting profanities. If I knew which house they belonged to, I would go talk with their parents at a time when they needed to go to sleep for work the next day.
